Wandsworth’s schools face cuts of £7.7 million, between last year and 2020. That’s means cutting the cost of more than 150 teachers.
We believe Justine Greening, the Secretary of State for Education, should give fair funding for our schools.
Earlier this year, parents made it clear that they were against proposed cuts to school funding and Justine Greening announced an extra £1.3 billion for schools. This was a real victory for parent power.
Though this extra money is welcome - it’s not enough. The government admits this is not new funding but comes from existing school budgets.
Schools in Battersea, Putney and Tooting are now facing real financial difficulties. One secondary school in the borough says it has had to cut 10 teachers and five support staff to save £420,000 and a headteacher at a local primary school says she cannot afford to replace four teachers who have left.
Wandsworth Labour supports local parents in their call for fair funding for schools.
